While waiting in line to watch the Dark Knight on opening night, Sagar and I have just recently poked fun at how he always sounds like he is pleading to his parents when he is talking on the phone.  Vlad's parents call him, and Sagar and I instantly look at each other and synchronously mock-plead:

"PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE LET ME SEE THE MOVIE!"

"Just wanted to say that you played so well today, I was thinking about this in the shower and you really knew what you were doing, you didn't drop your dribble.....etc" -Sagar

M - Are you okay to get home? Any chance of rapeage?
K - No, no rapeage, I'm okay to get home!
M - Are you sure? On a scale of 0-10, what are the chances?
    K - Negative 2
M - But that means you do the raping....
    K - hmm.. 0

Vlad and I continuing our tradition of finding/playing/singing the most girly songs in the VCAA office:
Vlad and I had heard a super girly song while grabbing dinner the day before.  The day after, Vlad prints out the lyrics and we sing it two times through in the office, then and there.  The song was Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis hahahahhaa

As I brought my bike into the office with the skeleton model from work in my backpack, Alexis suggests a better, more hilarious idea next time:  Get a skeleton that has legs and arms, have the legs wrap around my abdomen region and have the arms hang over my shoulders.  Also, make sure that it has a helmet on.

While sitting in the office relaxing for a little while, the topic of grinding comes up for some reason.  Vlad attempts to use the verb in its passed tense, only to find that it doesn't sound right: "I grinded her.."... "ground her?!?".  Vlad googles "grinding, past tense" and finds a wikihow page on how to grind, he proceeds to read it out loud.  This is the link: http://www.wikihow.com/Grind

Sooooooooooo, just had to get all those random things out, they were starting to unnecessarily lengthen my igoogle notepad (which is where I record hilarious moments to record them).

SCHOOL HAS BEEN ROUGH, the film fest started, school started, ontario med school applications were due, then out of province applications were due and school just came barreling down at me.  I've had at least 4 assignments, 4 presentations, 5 midterms and a whole bunch of other various things and I will continue to have at least 2 things per week until the end of semester.. including 2 grant proposals =( PRETTY RIDICULOUS!

I haven't had the time to even play many intramurals or really do anything else for that matter.  I haven't gone for a run since the last half marathon.  Which, by the way, was AWESOME and CRAPPY at the same time.  I basically got to Mel Lastman Square (where we started) and it was still minus 2 degrees outside, the worst part was that the bag check was OUTSIDE, I have never been so reluctant to take off my pants and outer layers.  I ended up running in running shorts, gloves, tuque, a long sleeve drifit and a tshirt on in freezing weather.  I have never sniffled so much in my life while doing exercise, it was super gross.  On the plus side, I improved on my last time by over 10 minutes with a 1:43.  I was at the last 3km or so and the 1:45 pacer had caught up to me, so I stayed with him for about 2km and gunned the last km, it was quite a speedy finish!  I also had a half hour massage and stretch after this half marathon, something I will DEFINITELY do for the next half marathons.  I could feel a huge difference in recovery time!

I have recently picked up 2 more shows: Glee and Flashforward.  I just gave Glee a shot because my sister said that I might like it.  It turns out that there are some HILARIOUS moments in that show, the singing is just a bonus!  Flashfoward has plenty of flaws (ie Fiennes OVERACTING IN EVERY SCENE WITH HIS WIFE), but it is just interesting enough to keep me on it.  I'm eventually going to try out Dexter and The Big Bang Theory!

I am looking forward to finishing my last exam and heading to NYC with Tom and Liz!  Okay that's it for now, 1 assignment and 1 presentation due next week!

  • Wolves behind me.

So the film fest is finally over.  It was my first year doing captain shifts at more than one venue and as a result, I ended up with plenty of vouchers to enjoy the festival!  I saw 22 films in 10 days which is pretty good considering I had to volunteer during and festival and had school!  I saw Antichrist, Fish Tank, La Soga, The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Police, Adjective, Accident, Castaway On The Moon, Leaves of Grass, All Fall Down, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, Micmacs, The Time That Remains, Mother, My son my son what have ye done?, London River, Whip It, Prince of Tears, Max Manus, White Material, Mr. Nobody, REC 2 and finally Precious.

There were some definitely standouts among the 22.  Antichrist was ridiculous in its audacity... if you were ever interested in how it would look if a clitoris was cut with scissors, just watch it and find out!  Fish Tank was a solid piece of film making which reminded me a LOT of Aronofsky's The Wrestler, very gritty and real characters.  I still like The Wrestler more though.  La Soga had too weak of a narrative to do anything with.  The disappearance of alice creed was just plenty of fun to watch, if you can suck it up and get past the first 10 minutes which seems to set the tone of the film as torture-porn, however, it turns out much more lighthearted than that!  Accident was one of the best films I saw this fest: an interesting premise and a beautiful case study of paranoia, I am guaranteeing a hollywood remake within the next 4 years.  Castaway on the moon was also one of the better films, some important social commentary underlying the film, but just so much humor and feed goodness!  Leaves of grass was pleasant to watch, Norton was expectantly fabulous.  All fall down was a super experimental film, and clearly I was unable to appreciate it because it was super tough to get through.  The private lives of Pippa Lee was also easy to get through, despite being ridiculously formulaic and cliched.  Micmacs was a bit of a letdown coming from Jean Pierre Jeunet, but was still fun to watch!  The time that remains was an interesting comedic take on the Israel-Palestine situation.  Mother was about 30 minutes too long, way too easy to call but had a brilliant performance from the female lead.  Herzog's My son my son had enough Lynchian weirdness for it all to not make sense, but not enough to keep me interested.  London River was one of the best films, great acting, pacing and storytelling, despite how obvious the plot would turn out.  Whip it was just so much fun to watch, you can't really go wrong!  Prince of tears felt like 3 hours and was ruined with the shift from period piece to romance film.  Max Manus was one of the best films, although it felt a lot like holllywood for portions of the film, it was overall very well done!  White Material just didn't work for me on any level, I actually don't know why I was so detached.  Mr. Nobody was beautiful to watch and definitely had the most potential, however, the final product, although ambitious, was not all that it could have been.  REC 2 was a complete letdown, the directors got rid of everything that made REC one of the best horror films of all time.  And finally, Precious was overrated, Daniels used some cheap gimmicks to get the audience onto his side, plus it also helped that much of the talent was there for their capacity gala screening.

Anyway, enough about the films and the film fest.  Med school applications are due very soon!  I am applying to UT, Mac, Queens, Western, Dal and Calgary.  Ultimately, I would LOVE to stay in Toronto at get into UT, I have all of my roots here!  But alas, I will go to whatever school takes me if it comes to that! I got one of those "this is for real holmes" moments when I was doing my Dal application.  It is a very exciting time for all those applying to medicine.  Your future will be dictated to you by the presence or absence of interviews within the next 4 months, exciting times!

On a side note, I am running a half marathon on sunday, for which I have not trained for in a very long time.  This will not end well.  Oh well, i've already paid, i'll just man up and hope that the cheer stations will get me though!  A sub 2 hour half marathon is out of the question now haha =)

Time for sleep, good night world! =)

Man, I really don't blog much anymore!  This summer has been one of my most relaxed ones in the history of summers.  My choice of not working full time has definitely paid off, I was able to study full time for my MCAT rewrite and did significantly better than last time!  This basically opened up my summer to do what I actually want to, it is a nice feeling.

I just got back from NYC yesterday, it was my 4th or 5th time so nothing new really.  I went with my mom and my youngest uncle.  My days basically consisted of accompanying them wherever they wanted to go to make sure that they didn't get lost.  After coming home, I would take my iphone, messenger bag, unlimited metrocard and a stack of american money and just walk and travel to random locations in new york.  Luckily enough, my 5th uncle's (yes, chinese people number their uncles) apartment was right on the border of soho, chinatown and little italy, a prime location if you ask me!  I spent a lot of days walking uptown on broadway, around chinatown and canal st as well as 5th,6th and 7th avenue, central park, manhattan mall, macy's and bloomingdales.  I bought a whole bunch of crap as my 5th uncle gave me some spending money, bought some clothes, messenger bag, some souvenirs, running gear, and some nice in ear noise reducing earphones for my iphone.  All in all, I spent a pretty uncharacteristic amount of money on shopping, but it was fun!

I found out that one of the cousins I am closest with is getting engaged!  And that another cousin is coming to Canada for university! This means that in all likelihood, I will be able to go to Shanghai this december, that will be exciting!

So there ain't much else planned for this summer, I am going to take a driving class and finally get my G2 (i know, don't judge my tardiness), I am going to do plenty of prefestival shifts this year at the Film fest to get as many tickets  as possible!  I really want to see a minimum of 10 films this year at this year's TIFF!  I am extremely excited!  Hopefully there will also be another round of snake island, but we'll see!  I am also going to try and get my fitness back up to where I want, I am about 145lb right now, I'd like to lose some more of my love handles and gain some more muscle, but we'll see how my body responds to exercise!

Okay, off to bed so I can wake up early enough to do a long run while the UV rays are not deadly!

So 3rd year is finished, I am super glad that was over, the second semester was a little harsh.  Just came back from a chronic pain workshop yesterday where I handled cadavers for the first time!  It was so amazingly cool but I was highly frustrated that there was still blood on the cadavers, they were SUPER FRESH.  I also got portions of my body scanned via ultrasound by a bunch of foreign anesthesiologists.  They scanned my supra scapularis, greater occipital nerve region at C1, ilioinguinal and iliohypogastric region, lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, and last but not least, my genitofemoral nerve (it is exactly where it sounds like it is, right beside the groin region).  At least it was fun to learn that my spermatic cord is intact and functional!  Good thing I got paid as well ;) hahaha

Something really nice happened to me durign exam period: I had a study patient for the epidural study and I was working in my office.  The janitor came in and did his job and I was friendly and started chatting.  Before he left, he told me that he had been working that floor in that department for over 10 years and no one has ever said thank you or even attempted to converse with him, he then told me that I would make a great physician someday.  That was really a surpirse to me, but nice nontheless!

Anyway, no big summer plans.  Just studying for my MCAT, working on this epidural study, playing volleyball whenver I can, starting to go for runs, trying to rescue my school induced state of fitness and working at the film fest!

    =)

    tonight, we fly.

    Random:

Michio Kaku talking about the horrible use of science with the advent of the hydrogen bomb.... "I sense some bias!"  For the record, I agree with him.

Your brain is apparently not like your spleen.

You should not ignore your children.

So not much happening!  6 courses hasn't gotten to me yet, although i do have 3 midterms in 2 days next week, not super cool but it is better than what Celina has after that crazy York strike.  She will have 6 FINAL EXAMS in 1 week.  I can't even begin to imagine how i would plan out my studying for something as outrageous as that.

So I have an outrageous rant about a small population of the students at uoft who shouldn't be allowed to interact with normal people.  So Vlad, Nicole and I were a group for out HMB322 assignment.  Part of our project was to make a pamphlet and a presentation about Cardiovascular disease.  After many hours of toil and hard work, our pamplhet came out AWESOME,  our presentation/slides were also FAR superior to any other group.  This is only the second time that I have worked until the wee hours of the morning to finish something and make it nice.  I spent plenty of time primping up our powerpoint slides.  So during my part of the presentation, this guy (who ended up being an asshole) interrupted me and pointed out that one of my graphs was rather old.  The tone was clearly belittling, it was the farthest thing from constructive criticism.  Fortunately, I was able to answer his question humorously and make the rest of the class laugh.  When I was going through our conclusion, this asshole puts up his hand again, looks at me with all the enmity in the world and says in that same belittling tone:

"uh, how many copyright agreements did you get for all of those pictures you used in your background?"

I said zero, because that question is just fucking outrageous. He replies:

"well then you should have cited every single picture in your references, by not citing them, you are stealing intellectual and creative property"

I pretend he is trying to make constructive criticism and agree.

Clearly, he saw that our pamphlet rocked,  and that out presentation was HEAD AND SHOULDERS above his and wanted to belittle our presentation as much as he could.

First of all, I am actually glad he did it, because not a single group cited their pictures or backgrounds(including HIS).  With his remarks about copyrights, he effectively made himself look like the BIGGEST douche in the world, to his colleagues AND to our TA.  Good job buddy, you just made everyone look better by doing that!

As much as I hate to admit to it, UofT has too many students to not have at least a couple of these assholes floating around in classes.  I understand it is a dog eat dog world out there, but what could you have possibly gained by making those hilarious remarks?

It is people like that who should NEVER EVER be allowed to interact with and bring the rest of humanity down with them.  How do people like him have friends? How do they make it in the real world?  I actually feel bad for their lack of moral fibre.  How far can you get in life without a rigid moral backbone or at least the slightest sense of right and wrong?  Oh well, stuff like this is bound to happen eventually!

I finally read Le Petit Prince and it is EASILY my favorite novella of all time.  It was so simple in its storytelling and plot yet so powerful in its themes and morals.  I love parables that leave lasting impressions with me.  Some of my favorite parts are when the prince meets the lamplighter and his fidelity to his job, when he meets the fox and understands the act of taming and when he understands that the most important things are invisible.  Definitely must read! It won't take more than 45 minutes of your time!

I got my expected rejection email from queens medicine just a couple of days ago, not a surprise in the least.  I knew I wouldn't have made their verbal cut off, so it's allllllllllllll good.  I don't know why UofT is taking their time, I don't expect an interview from them either but you NEVER know with uoft, they have taken people with far worse scores than i have =)  It's all good really, my BIG year is next year for applications, besides, I would REALLY like to graduate with my bachelor of science first.  I have put in so much work and so much into schooling and its environment and extracurriculars, i would REALLY like to have something to show for it haha.  Besides, I would HATE to miss out the ONE time that i would be in con hall for its original purpose after all those hours spent in con hall for lectures.

So I think I am going to try and take up jogging everyday again when the weather starts getting warmer.  I never got past the hate part of that love/hate relationship with running.  I eventually defected to rollerblading, and now to biking.  I think I am going to buy a NICE road bike when the weather gets warmer and use it to go EVERYWHERE.  Ever since I realized how efficient biking is, i've been thinking that it is definitely the way to go!  I am beginning to dislike the ttc more and more each year.  Healthy alternative forms of transit FTW!

Also, I think I am going to do something for my birthday this year, maybe a joint thing with kenny, it will be during reading week! Stay tuned!

Okay, sleep time, gooooooooooooooooooooooood night dudes and dudettes.
